The Globe and Mail’s online poll, always good for a facepalm, is particularly priceless today.  It asks readers whether they feel the Governor General should disregard constitutional convention and refuse Harper the chance to call an election.

Some 46% of respondents feel she should “deny” his request for an election, or “tell Harper to face Parliament again first”.  In other words, nearly half of Canadians want the unelected mouthpiece of our cerimonial figurehead monarch to be actively interfering with our politics.

My friend Carol-Ann sagely observed that if you asked the same people the question, “does the G-G have too much power,” they’d probably all answer yes.
